Our Story

Desert Lily was a project born out of a labor of love, longsuffering, and waiting in God.

We got married in 2018, and after a few years felt it was the right time to try growing our family. We soon discovered what many couples realize when trying to conceive- it was going to be a lot more challenging than we first expected and believed.

As defined by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), infertility is a disease characterized by the inability to achieve a successful pregnancy based on many factors, male or female, and is different for every couple.

Our experience with infertility has been eye-opening, as we learned that 1 in 6 couples are impacted by infertility globally, and although there are medical resources to support couples on this journey, we found there was a gap in the spiritual and emotional resources available.

I (Bethany) started asking God to show me how he was going to use our experience with infertility for our good and his glory. In March 2025, I felt that he gave me a glimpse. He opened the door for me to gather poems for a collection that would minister to couples walking this same path, and also give our communities a view into this hidden grief.

God is good and we are thankful that he has been with us every step of this journey, though it hasn’t been easy. We have felt isolated, alone, abandoned, left behind, forgotten, and hopeless. And yet, he has promised that we would see his goodness in this life (Ps. 27:13), and that he restores our souls (Ps. 23:3).

Our prayer and hope is that this gift of words and form would bless those who read it, and draw them closer to the heart of God during their time of suffering. We hope that it will resonate with anyone, whatever you are facing. â€‹

Walking with you in hope,

Andrew & Bethany
